Outreach by CAPS
The Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) staff members offer presentations and workshops throughout the year to UCSD students in a variety of settings (e.g., residence life, student organizations, academic departments, and classroom lectures). CAPS staff present on a variety of topics to provide education, skills, and experiences to promote student wellness and the prevention of psychological distress.
CAPS has been active in providing outreach programming. Below are a sample of major outreach programs facilitated by CAPS:
- Wellness Peer Education Program
- Graduate and Professional Student Outreach
- Summer Bridge Program: College Success Strategies
- Student and Parent Orientation
- CAPS Services
Outreach programs can be initiated by student and/or staff requests, or even by our own CAPS staff in efforts to bring issues of concern to various campus populations. CAPS staff prepares programs specifically designed to enhance personal growth, develop coping skills, develop social and communication skills, and to improve the functioning of UCSD students and communities. These programs tend to be delivered to specific groups or organizations and are time-limited, aimed at improving student life experiences and prevention of academic, emotional, physical, or social difficulties. Formats include workshops, training seminars, lectures, discussions, forums, support groups, information tables, pamphlets, etc.
Any UCSD group or department may contact CAPS to request an outreach presentation or additional information at (858) 534-3755. If you know the name of a particular staff member, please let us know and we will convey your request to that person. If you have a specific request for a program, talk, or discussion, please let us know that too. We are always open to developing programs above and beyond those listed here. It is important to note that, although we make every effort to respond quickly, we do need at least one to two weeks notice before presenting a program.
