Urgent Care Services

• Urgent Care Hours: 8:00am-4:00pm
• CAPS provides urgent care services for students who are in crisis and require same-day treatment. Students who request urgent services will be asked to complete necessary online forms.
• While most students with urgent/same-day appointments will be seen shortly after completing check-in and forms, if there are many students in crisis, the urgent care counselor will prioritize which students will be seen based on the severity of concerns.
• Concerns related to safety to self and/or others will take priority.
• Urgent care services are located at our Central Office, Galbraith Hall 190 (next to the Revelle Plaza Fountain).

Crisis Counseling

• During normal business hours, students can call our Central Office at 858-534-375 to speak and/or meet with the urgent care counselor.
• For students in crisis outside business hours, counselors are available and can be reached by calling our Central Office number at 858-534-3755, and selecting Option 2 from the voice menu.
• The following are crisis numbers available to UCSD students for situations outside business hours:

Concerns About a Student

• If you are concerned about a student (friend, daughter/son, etc.), please contact our Central Office at 858-534-3755, and ask to speak with the Urgent Care counselor for consultation.
• If you wish to escort the student to CAPS for immediate assistance during Urgent Care Hours (8:00am-4:00pm), please come to our Central Office, located at Galbraith Hall 190, Building 141 on the Campus Map.
• For life-threatening emergencies, please call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room. The local emergency rooms near campus include:

eMessaging Your CAPS Provider

• In order to assure your privacy, CAPS has adopted a policy prohibiting communication with students via email, which is not a secure form of communication. CAPS staff are not permitted to communicate with students using e-mail.
• If you need to communicate with your counselor regarding scheduling, please (1) telephone them directly with the number provided to you at your first meeting, or (2) use our secure online messaging system at the UCSD CAPS/SHS web portal (https://shs.ucsd.edu). Please select Messages from the left menu and follow the instructions. This is the only way to contact your counselor electronically. For all other communications, please telephone your Counselor.
• Please note that that your CAPS provider may not access their electronic secure messages at regular times throughout the day due to appointments and other clinical duties. You may also leave them a phone message at the number they provided for you at your first meeting.
• If you require timely or urgent assistance, please call our central office at 858 534-3755 during business hours (8:00-4:30 Monday through Friday). If you have an urgent need after-hours, you can talk to a mental health counselor by calling 858 534-3755 and selecting option 2. For a life threatening emergency, please call 911.
