SHOULD I COME TO CAPS?
- If you find yourself feeling increasingly sad or upset, withdrawing from others, grades slipping, sleeping more, or feeling less interested in things, come to CAPS.
- If you are thinking about suicide, or harming yourself or others, contact CAPS immediately.
- If you think you may be experiencing depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues, you can take an anonymous Online Assessment.
- CAPS provides brief individual, group, and couples counseling; limited psychiatry services; workshops and outreach programming to students. In order to meet significant student demand and use resources most effectively, CAPS utilizes a short-term, intermittent therapy model, providing brief psychotherapy and referral to specialty care. Most students find that they can get their needs met in 1-5 meetings
- Brief individual and group counseling is provided to address emotional, relationship, or other mental health concerns that interfere with academic and/or personal effectiveness
- Some of the concerns that are commonly addressed in short-term counseling at CAPS are:
- Personal Concerns: Stress, anxiety, mild to moderate depression, anger, loneliness, guilt, low self-esteem, grief
- Relationship Concerns: Romantic relationship difficulties, roommate problems, family problems
- Developmental Concerns: Identity (e.g., personal, cultural, sexual orientation, sexual identity), adjustment to college, life transition
- Substance Use: Concerns related to mild /moderate alcohol or other drug use/abuse
- Academic Concerns: Performance/test anxiety, perfectionism, academic difficulties

- For urgent or crisis matters, please call (858) 534-3755 and ask to speak to the urgent care psychologist.

- During non-business hours and holidays, crisis counseling is available at (858) 534-3755 (select Option 2).
- For life-threatening emergencies, please call 911 or go to the nearest hospital.
